Semantic Cohesion in Arabic Texts: textual approach

Abstract

This study examines semantic cohesion in Arabic texts from the perspective of text linguistics, aiming to elucidate the semantic relationships and mechanisms of textual coherence in literary and religious texts, such as the Holy Qur'an and pre-Islamic poetry. It employs an applied analysis of linguistic phenomena, including reference, repetition, and logical connectives, drawing on the insights of scholars like Al-Jāḥiẓ, Al-Jurjānī, and Mohammed Khattabi to bridge traditional Arabic rhetoric with contemporary studies. The study underscores that semantic cohesion arises from a complex interplay between the text and its social and cultural contexts, reflecting a rich linguistic heritage and contributing to an understanding of cultural interactions. Methodologically, it analyzes selected texts to highlight how linguistic elements are organized to achieve semantic unity. The study recommends advancing text studies by linking linguistic heritage with modern practices and encouraging research into the applications of semantic cohesion in contemporary texts.
