Computational Linguistics and the development of its modern information technology fields

Abstract

This research aims to study computational linguistics as a field that combines theoretical linguistics and digital technology, seeking to process the Arabic language automatically at its phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels. The research stems from a fundamental problem: How can computational linguistics serve the Arabic language in light of global technological progress? It adopted the descriptive-analytical method, which is based on describing the linguistic phenomenon, analyzing it, and linking it to computational applications, while relying on the available scientific references. The significance of the study lies in highlighting the need to integrate Arabic into artificial intelligence and natural language processing projects, and in building specialized digital tools that contribute to the development of machine translation, linguistic analysis, and information retrieval. The research concluded that computational linguistics constitutes a multi-disciplinary “language engineering,” and that developing digital Arabic corpora and lexicons is a fundamental step toward strengthening the presence of Arabic in the digital space.
