Abstract

Assessing critical thinking skills and its relation to achievements in Math. For students at math department the present research aim at assessing the level of availability of critical thinking for fourth grade students at math department according to the sex variable (male and female). To know the satisfied significance difference between the male and female students and to assign the correlative relation and its strength toward this stage. The researcher put two hypotheses.

To verify this, aim the researcher has applied the research on random samples consists of (100) male and female students divided into (62) male students and (38) female students. The researcher has designs two instruments to verify the aim ,i.e., a scale for assessing critical thinking which includes (54) items and an achievement test in math, which also include (54) items in a form of (MCQs). The discrimination power and level of difficulty are secured. The reliability of the test of critical thinking is secured by applying test and re-test and Cronbach’s Alpha and split halves. The test is also prepared by adapting the table of features and test map. The results of the test are analyzed by different statistical manners, (T. Test) for one sample and two samples by (Z. Test). the result show that there is a good level of critical thinking skills according to the sex variables and in favor to the female students and there is a strong correlative relationship between critical thinking and achievement in Math in favor to the research sample. The researcher put some recommendations and suggestions
