The special protection of children in the Geneva Convention and its two annexes

Abstract

Children and women during wars or armed conflicts benefit from the general legal protection due to the civilian population provided by international humanitarian law, as well as as well as special protection based on the consideration of each category, which is what was addressed in this research. Women and children must have special protection whether they are civilians or those who are involved in the hostilities. This study reviewed the justifications of special protection in the law of armed conflicts for these two categories, as well as this study addressed the rules of this law related to the protection of women and children, specifically in the Forth Geneva Convention of 1949 and its two additional protocols. The research reached to a set of results and recommendations.
