ارث و تاريخ الاجداد والبلد جزءا مهما من ثقافة وتاريخ الشعوب, فهو الوعاء الذي تستمد منها العقيدة , القيم الاصيلة, التقاليد , الافكار, اللغة واسلوب الحياة, وهو ايضا يحدد جسر التواصل بين الأجيال, والمكون الأساس في صياغة الشخصية وبلورة الهوية . يمكن تتبع الهوية و الشعور بالانتماء بوضوح في قصائد شيموس هيني المبكرة. يعتبر العديد من النقاد ان هذا مجرد كشف عن الذات أو نتيجة للشعور بالذنب لتركه عائلته وأرضه وحياته المهنية.تهدف هذه الدراسه الى اثبات أنه على الرغم من حقيقة أن هيني قد ترك مكان ميلاده وتقاليد والديه و أختيار ان يكون كاتبا, فقد قدم شعرا يحمل استمرارية البحث في الماضي والجذور. تستنتج الدراسة ان الشعور بالانتماء قد ظهر في قصائد هيني المبكرة لتعكس رغبته في غرس روح الاخلاص للعائلة والتقاليد والوطن.
