Some Poets Affected the Dubbet (Persian Couplet)

Abstract

     Distich is one of the Persian poetic forms that entered Arabic language, that Arabic literature has lived periods of development and abundance due to its contact with neighboring foreign cultures. And with the advent of Islam into neighboring and Persian civilizations, opportunities were presented for poets to free themselves of the constraints of old forms and engage in, and integrate with, themes beyond the common ones.

Initially, the research defines the meaning of (distich) in language and terminology. It clarifies (quatrains) due to their close relationship with distich which is part of them, and also clarifies (couplets) which also have a close relationship with distich. Then, the research tackles the phases the distich has gone through, and then compares between distich and quatrains. Later, it presents examples of distich and quatrains. Finally, the research talks about the best poets who wrote distich, couplets and quatrains. It also refers to a number of poets who wrote the religious-oriented poems such as the themes of Karbala and Muharram.
