Abstract

This study dealt with soil salinity and its effect on shaping the
phenomenon of desertification in the Ishaqi district, It was found from the
results of this research that the study area suffers from a high level of soil
salinity, The general rate of soil salinity in the studied sites was (8.2 mm /
cm) which has high salinity, The effect of soil salinity varies from region to
region, and that the rise in soil salinity in the study area is due to several
factors, including the nature of the surface and the characteristics of the
prevailing climate, in addition to the characteristics of surface and ground
water, irrigation and drainage projects, and their role in the occurrence of
salinization on the soil surface, The results of the study also revealed that soil
salinity has effectively contributed to the decrease in cultivated areas as a
result of the deterioration of agricultural lands in the study area.
