يعد فقدان الترابط والوحدة والانسجام بين الطبيعة والإنسان من أهم تبعات الثورة الصناعية الحديثة والتقدم التكنولوجي. هذا الإهمال للطبيعة يؤدي إلى الإضرار بصحة الإنسان. في هذا السياق ، من المهم إيجاد طريقة فعالة لإعادة بناء العَلاقة بين النظام البيئي والبشر، وتحقق النظرية البيئية هذا الهدف بشكل فعال لأنها تتضمن استكشاف العَلاقة بين الأدب والعالم الطبيعي. انطلاقا من كون الشعر أداة فعالة لنشر الوعي البيئي بين الناس. سيكون تطبيق هذه النظرية على نموذج من الشعر الاميركي متمثلا في ماري أوليفر (1935-2019) عن طريق تحليل شعرها وشرح كيف ان الشاعرة تجد طريقة فعالة في التواصل والاندماج مع البيئة.
