Abstract

The research aims to study the vegetation cover in the southern part of Wasit Governorate for the period (2000-2019) based on the NDVI Vegetation Index - Difference Normalized, a standard index that works to create an image that shows the biomass with relative greenness. With the use of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) by analyzing space satellite data for the Land Sat7 satellite and extracting tables and maps to facilitate comparison and draw conclusions.

The study showed that the area of the vegetation cover for the year (2000) was(1518) km2, and that area increased in 2019 to (634) km2 and recorded a Negative change of (884) with a percentage of (71.7%) and an annual average of (3.6) for the period (2000-2019).
