Geographical Analysis of the Urban Space in the City of Kut according to the criteria of the aged -friendly cities

Abstract

The current paper  aims to study the relationship between quality of life of the aged and the planning form of the urban space in the city and the method of exploiting urban spaces to meet the needs of the aged population in the urban environment and comparing them with the global health standards for aged-friendly cities. The paper has  addressed the reality of the lives of the aged  in the urban environment of the city of Kut to determine the suitability of planning urban spaces for the quality of life of this category and to know the most important factors that help to apply these standards using a set of advanced methods to measure quality of urban spaces and their suitability for the aged, including surveys and interviews to collect the opinions and evaluations of the aged and experts in the field and the use of spatial and statistical analysis to analyze data and the use of geographic information systems (GIS).

The study concluded that planning policies for the aged population are weak, as planning for the urban space of the city and the formation of its elements did not take into account the needs of the aged and their life requirements that would create interaction between them and society.
