Abstract

The aim of the current research is to identify the effect of a counseling program based on self-stigma in developing academic determination among university students.

To achieve the research objectives, the researcher:

The researcher constructed a scale of academic determination based on precise scientific methodological steps to verify its psychometric properties in terms of validity and reliability. He also prepared a guidance program based on the concept of self-stigma, based on Goffman's (1963) theory. The scale's paragraphs were used as a reference for constructing the program, which consisted of 12 guidance sessions, each lasting 45 minutes. The program was presented to a group of experts specializing in the field to ensure its validity and suitability for the study's objectives.

The validity of the scale was verified using both face validity and construct validity, while reliability was extracted using two methods: retesting, where the reliability coefficient reached (0.87), and Cronbach's alpha method, which showed a reliability coefficient of (0.79). To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher adopted the descriptive approach, with the study community defined as students of the Psychology Department at the College of Education at Wasit University for the academic year (2024-2025). The sample for statistical analysis amounted to (200) male and female students, who were selected from the original community For the research, after completing the construction and analysis steps, the scale settled on its final form of (30) items. Based on the results he reached, the researcher presented a set of relevant recommendations and proposals.
