Conservation and restoration of a pottery sarcophagus from the Neo-Assyrian period

Abstract
The Conservation and restoration of antiquities has a long history but it can be said that its emergence was in 1950 when the Institute for conservation of Historic and Works of Art –IIC. The title of the search refers to the terms conservation and restoration, which includes everything related to the treatment of antiquities, whether movable objects or immovable, but according to the international standard, the aim of preserving and restoring antiquities is because they represent artistic, historical, archaeological and scientific importance.
This research deals with the conservation and restoration of a pottery sarcophagus from the Neo-Assyrian period. by studying the condition of the coffin and knowing the causes of deterioration and conducting laboratory analyzes such as X-ray diffraction analysis as well as X-rays and soil analysis to find out the presence of copper in it. One of the most important results of the research was the restoration of the coffin by scientific methods with the removal of the causes of deterioration that were surrounding it.
