Variation of wind speed characteristics during hourly observations in Iraq

Abstract

Wind is one of the important climate elements that are part of human activities and the interpretation of climatic conditions for any region. As many changes, whether hourly or daily, occur as a result of the changes taking place in this climatic era.                                                                                  

In this research, the variation in surface wind characteristics was studied during the hourly observations in Iraq for the stations (Mosul, Baghdad, Al-Hay, Al-Rutba, and Basra) by using wind speed data recorded for the period from (2011) - (2021), which was obtained from the authority. The results showed that the wind speed increases in the summer season of the year compared to the winter season. The results also indicated that the wind speed recorded in the northern region station (Mosul) is less than the speed recorded in the central region station (Baghdad) and the two stations Southern region (Hayy, Basra) and respectively.
