The Role of Stage Costume in Revealing Character Dimensions in Children's Theater Performances: The Play "Vitamins" by Hussein Ali Harf as a Case Study

Abstract

This research aims to study the role of theatrical costumes in revealing character dimensions in children's theater performances, using the play "Vitamins" by artist Hussein Ali Harf as a case study. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing data collection tools such as direct and indirect observation, visual content analysis, semi-structured interviews with theater and education experts, and a questionnaire administered to children.The results showed that theatrical costumes play a pivotal role in introducing children to characters and revealing their psychological, social, and aesthetic dimensions. The study also demonstrated that color, fabric, movement, and visual symbols contribute to constructing a clear image of the character, and that harmony between costumes and other scenographic elements (lighting, set design, and movement) enhances comprehension. Furthermore, the study indicated that simplicity in the design of symbols and shapes facilitates children's understanding of educational meanings and values ​​effortlessly, and that the artistic integration of all elements of the performance enhances the educational and aesthetic effectiveness of the theater. The research concluded that theatrical costumes are not merely aesthetic elements, but effective educational and artistic tools for conveying messages to children. They constitute an independent visual language that enriches the child's theatrical and educational experience
