Abstract

The history of the Ottoman Empire and the international competition over its properties were of great interest for researchers; however, there are still some important topics that have not been discussed yet. One of these topics is Aqaba Railway project, proposed to the Ottoman Empire by Great Britain.

      The research’s title, Aqaba Railway Project 1903-1909: a historical study, was selected in view of the subject’s importance in various aspects, whether economic, political or military. The year 1903 is selected as the starting point of this paper because the project was first officially presented to the Ottoman Empire in that year, while the year 1909 was selected to mark the end of the period covered hereby because the Aqaba Railway Project file was closed that year, after Britain had achieved its objectives of the project.
