Abstract

The study sheds light on the sanctification of water among Arabs before Islam, which is the root of this phenomenon in the ancient Near East civilizations and the implications of this influence on the beliefs of the ancient Arabs. In this study, we will also review the water gods of the Arabs before Islam, and the evidence to support the idea of ​​water sanctification, including: the installation of the gods at the source of water; it is a symbol of purity and the destruction of water resources, being inhabited by hidden forces, The myth that accompanied the digging of some wells and the graves of holy ancestors added sanctity, and the study focuses on the water is the origin of the universe, because it is the origin of creation, and the secret of its permanence, and as is the origin of the end.
