الصراع بين التاريخ والشعر موجود منذ العصور القديمة لأفلاطون وأرسطو وحتى العصور اللاحقة. الجدل يصاحب مثل هذا الصراع على مر العصور. لذلك، تتعمق هذه الورقة في كيفية كشف الشعر عن حقيقة الأحداث التاريخية أو قصص الماضي. تهدف هذه الورقة إلى دراسة دور الشاعر كمؤرخ، وكيف يقدم الشعراء هذه الأحداث التاريخية بصدق، وكيف تحافظ هذه القصائد على هويتها الأدبية. تم اختيار قصيدتين إنجليزيتين من العصر الحديث (1900-1940)، قصيدة توماس هاردي "تقارب الأثنان" في (1912) و قصيدة روديارد كيبلينغ "بلاد ما بين النهرين" في (1917)
