يركز البحث، الذي أُجري بين عامي 2015 و2023، على روايتي "كلارا والشمس" لكازو إيشيغورو و"آلات مثلي" لإيان ماك إيوان. ومن خلال تحليلٍ مُفصّلٍ لهاتين الروايتين، تتناول الدراسة كيف تُصوّر هاتان الروايتان الذكاء الاصطناعي ليس فقط كإبداعٍ تكنولوجي، بل كعملٍ سرديٍّ له دورٌ في بناء الذاتية والإنسانية. ومن منظور ما بعد الإنسانية، مستلهمةً من أعمال روزي برايدوتي وإن. كاثرين هايلز، تُجادل الدراسة بأن الأعمال الروائية التي تتناول الذكاء الاصطناعي ليست مجرد تعبيرٍ عن الخوف من الاستبدال بالتكنولوجيا، بل هي تحليلٌ نقديٌّ للمسائل الأخلاقية والوجودية المتعلقة بهشاشة الإنسان وهويته ومسؤوليته. ولا تقتصر هذه الأعمال الروائية على تصوير الذكاء الاصطناعي ككائنٍ قادرٍ على المشاعر والإدراك، بل تُقدّم أيضًا تعليقًا على حدود الإنسانية نفسها، مما يُطمس الحدود الفاصلة بين ما هو إنساني وما هو غير إنساني. يخلص البحث إلى أن هذا البُعد من الخيال الأدبي يُشكّل في الوقت نفسه أحد المساحات النقدية التي تحتلها الرواية الإنجليزية المعاصرة ضمن الفلسفة. إن استخدام مصطلح "ما بعد الإنسانية" لتصوير الفن الذي يتمحور حول الذكاء الاصطناعي يُعدّ بحد ذاته شكلاً من أشكال النقد، إذ يُصوّر الذكاء الاصطناعي كدواءٍ واسع الانتشار يُلبي التطلعات الإنسانية التي من خلالها نبني الزمان والمستقبل.
