تتناول الدراسة الحالية رواية ارنست همنغواي- الشيخ و البحر (1952) ان لسبر اغوار المضامين الثورية و المواعظ لأهمية بالغة تسلط الدراسة الحالية الضوء عليه من خلال نظريته الجليد. تتساءل الدراسة عن الأسباب الكامنة وراء رحلة سانتياغو للبحر, و كيف خلق همنعواي مضامين ثورية خلالها. انها تهدف لتصوير رحلة سنتياغو كثورة ضد المادية و دعوة للصمود تحت الضغوظات. انها تشجع الناس تحت الضغط للتغيير من خلال الثورة, الحلم, و الحراك. اكتشفت الدراسة بان سنتياغو حقق حلمه العظيم بالتغلب على ظروفه القاهرة. وعليه فقد اثبت نفسه لنفسه و برهن بان الانسان لا يمكن ان يثمن بمكاسبه المادية و انما بقواه الكامنة. وهكذا اصبح اسوة ابدية بالتحدي لكل الأجيال.
