Manifestations of bias against women in society from the perspective of College of Education for Human Sciences female students

Abstract

The research aims to identify the manifestations of bias against women in society. The study included a random sample of 100 female students from the Departments of Education in the College of Humanities for the academic year 2021/2022. The researcher prepared a questionnaire consisting of 51 items, which were answered by choosing one of the five alternatives (strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, strongly disagree). The validity of the research tool was obtained through face validity, and its reliability was obtained through test-retest reliability, with a reliability coefficient of (0.966).

As for the statistical methods used in the study, they were percentages and relative weights. The results showed the following:

The most common manifestations of bias were: paragraph (44), which states that when a young man makes a mistake, society overlooks it, while when a young woman makes a mistake, there is no room for forgiveness; paragraph (26), which criticizes women's clothing more frequently than men's, even if it is inappropriate; paragraph (47), which indicates that harassment of girls is prevalent in our society; paragraph (31), which highlights the fact that female students face more difficulties than male students when commuting to and from their homes; paragraph (29), which indicates that if a girl is harassed, her family punishes her even if she is innocent; paragraph (17), which states that our society judges female students based on their appearance rather than other objective criteria; paragraph (22), which indicates that some families do not allow their daughters to enroll in physical education and art colleges; paragraph (7), which shows that some members of society misunderstand religious teachings, blaming women for what happens to them; paragraph (36), which states that society is more lenient with men and stricter with women; and paragraph (48), which indicates that leadership roles in our society are limited to men.
