Displacement in the poetry of Muzaffar al-Nawab

Abstract

Contemporary Arabic poetry represents a fertile ground for expressing the social and political transformations that Arab societies witnessed in the twentieth century This poetry was closely linked to real-life events and tragedies. Among the most prominent poets of this            era was the Iraqi poet Muzaffar al-Nawab His poetic experience was distinguished by its deep interaction with national and humanitarian issues, using innovative rhetorical methods, including the phenomenon of displacement Displacement is a linguistic and literary concept that refers to the deliberate departure from linguistic or stereotypical rules in a text, with the aim of creating a different aesthetic and semantic effect. This research aims to study the phenomenon of displacement in Muzaffar al-Nawab's poetry, by analyzing the various forms of displacement and clarifying their expressive roles within poetic texts, thus contributing to deepening the understanding of the artistic structure of this poetry and highlighting its value within the modern Arabic poetic experience. Contemporary Arabic poetry is considered a mirror reflecting the social and political reality of Arab countries, and poets have played a prominent role in expressing the pain and concerns of their people. Among these poets stands out the Iraqi poet Muzaffar al-Nawab, known for his revolutionary and critical poetry, which employs innovative rhetorical techniques, most notably displacement. Displacement is a linguistic and literary phenomenon embodied in the poetic text's departure from stereotypical rules, adding a new aesthetic and semantic dimension. This research aims to study the phenomenon of displacement in Muzaffar al-Nawab's poetry, analyzing its various forms and expressive functions. This will contribute to a deeper understanding of this poetry and a renewal of modern Arabic literary criticism.
